چکیده

INtrODUctION Humans have learned to cooperate in many ways and in many environments, on different tasks, and for achieving different and several goals. Collaboration and cooperation in their more general sense (and, in particular, negotiation, exchange, help, delegation, adoption, and so on) are important characteristics-or better, the most foundational aspects-of human societies (Tuomela, 1995). In the evolution of cooperative models, a fundamental role has been played by diverse constructs of various kinds (purely interactional, technical-legal, organizational, socio-cognitive, etc.), opportunely introduced (or spontaneously emerged) to support decision making in collab-orative situations. The new scenarios we are destined to meet in the third millennium transfigure the old frame of reference, in that we have to consider new channels and infrastructures (i.e., the Internet), new artificial entities for cooperating with artificial or software agents, and new modalities of interaction (suggested/imposed by both the new channels and the new entities). In fact, it is changing the identification of the potential partners, the perception of the other agents, the space-temporal context in which interaction happen, the nature of the interaction traces, the kind and role of the authorities and guarantees, etc. For coping with these scenarios, it will be necessary to update the traditional supporting decision-making constructs. This effort will be necessary especially to develop the new cyber-societies in such a way as not to miss some of the important cooperative characteristics that are so relevant in human societies.

A Fuzzy Approach to a Belief-Based Trust Computation

The approaches to the trust study are various and very different each of other. In our view, just a socio-cognitive approach to trust would be able to analyze the sub-components (the basic beliefs) on which the final decision to trust or not is taken. In this paper we show a first implementation and advance of the socio-cognitive model of trust developed in [1, 2] using the so-called Fuzzy Cogn...

Dynamic Trust Applied to Ad Hoc Network Resources

The Dynamic Trust-based Resources (DyTR) system applies a dynamic notion of trust to ad hoc network resources. DyTR continuously assesses the trustworthiness of entities over time based on system events and controls network resources according to current levels of trust. For dynamic trust assessment, DyTR utilizes a socio-cognitive model of trust, a formal model of the essential concepts and ch...

Transitivity in Trust. A Discussed Property

Transitivity in trust is very often considered as a quite simple property, trivially inferable from the classical transitivity defined in mathematics, logic, or grammar. In fact the complexity of the trust notion suggests evaluating the relationships with the transitivity in a more adequate way. In this paper, starting from a socio-cognitive model of trust, we analyze the different aspects and ...

Trust Mediation in Knowledge Management and Sharing

The aim of this paper is to provide a theory of the role trust plays in knowledge sharing processes, by exploiting a cognitive model of the goals and beliefs of an agent involved in the decision of passing and/or accepting knowledge, and a related model of the symmetrical or asymmetrical trust relationships within a group (Trust-Nets). This theory is based on the claim that trust is a fundament...

Dynamic Trust-based Resource Allocation

DyTR is an approach to trust that goes beyond traditional authentication-based techniques, in which the trustworthiness of entities in a system adapts over time based on system events. Using a socio-cognitive model of trust, DyTR provides an adaptive trustassessment methodology that allocates resources dynamically to an initial level of credentials, continually assesses trust, and adaptively al...
